Diwali

On Thursday 4th November we held a Diwali Day in school to learn about this important festival which is one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and some Buddhists. The children learnt about the story of Rama and Sita as well as some of the ways that the festival is celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs. Some children created brightly coloured rangoli patterns and others made lanterns as Diwali is often known as the festival of lights.

Our older children considered the similarities with festivals that they know from other faiths as well as the importance of ‘light’ for other faiths. In order to make our Diwali day a true celebration, we all came to school dressed in a brightly coloured top and enjoyed a special Diwali lunch.

The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about Diwali and we would like to thank Pareeka’s family for their donation of Diwali lamps.  Pareeka also read the story of Diwali to her class and lots of children wished her a Happy Diwali!
